Agenda
Each day before the students leave, we will go over homework assignments for the night. If there is homework, students will write the assignments in their agenda. There is a spot at the bottom of the agenda that should be signed by parents EVERY NIGHT. If you have a message you would like me to see, feel free to write it in the agenda and remind your student to show me. I will gladly respond to you through the agenda. This also allows you to monitor daily homework assignments that your child has.
Data Notebooks
This is a way for students to record grades, record daily behavior, and set goals. This is an assessment tool for students that allows students to monitor their own progress and set quarterly goals for themselves. All of the grades and goals are recorded by the students.
Student-Led Conferences
My goal for this year is to include students in the spring parent-teacher conferences. I would like students to be able to show their parents their grades, behavior, and goals and allow them to talk about their progress or what they need to do to improve.
Daily Reading
Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes per day outside of school. Reading can be done in material of the student's choice. Reading for enjoyment should be fun. You can read to your child, and he/she can read to you. As long as students are reading, great!
Birthdays
You are welcome to send in a treat on or near your child’s birthday. If your child is planning a party, you are welcome to send home invitations with students as long as the entire class is invited. Otherwise, I ask that you do that outside of school.
Newsletters
During the school year I try to keep families informed about updates in our classroom and opportunities for you to extend your child's learning in school. I will send home a monthly newsletter to keep you up-to-date and share our learning with you. You can also find information about our classroom by visiting the class website.
Snack
We will be eating snack in the classroom. Students are encouraged to bring healthy snacks. You were asked to send in a box of snacks to share with the class, and when our supply runs out, I will send home a note in the newsletter requesting more. You have already provided what was asked on the class list, so you can decide whether or not you'd like to send in another box.
Friday Work Folders
On Fridays your child will be bringing home a folder of the week's work for you to look over. I hope you'll have a chance to sit down together and reflect on the contents of the folder. Please feel free to correct and tests or assignments and send them back in to earn back half the points that were missed the first time.
